Sleep & Beauty

Maintaining your sleep cycle can lead to a more beautiful you.

Reasons to keep a sleep cycle

1. Be wrinkle free!
There is increased perspiration during sleep for the whole body. Wrinkles are smoothed out by the natural lubricant – perspiration – produced by the body, giving you the same effect as cosmetics do. Besides, lying down for a significant number of hours each day would lessen the gravitational force on your skin as being horizontal spreads out the pressure pulling on the body. Thus keeping a sleep cycle would be largely beneficial for your skin.

Also, it is advisable to sleep on your back rather than on your side or stomach. According to a website produced by the American Academy of dermatologists, “resting your face on the pillow in the same way every night for years on end also leads to wrinkles.” Thus, besides maintaining your sleep cycle, remember to sleep on your back to prevent wrinkles.

2. Flatten your tummy!
Disrupting your sleep cycle or lacking quality sleep can adversely affect yiour health. These two factors can lead to an increase in body fat percentage and also exacerbates the susceptibility of you to chronic disease. The negative effects of cortisol can be lessened with deep, quality sleep. As you get older, production of growth hormone naturally drops as with the case of increased abdominal fat. Getting your beauty sleep would decrease the risk of continually being tired, producing excess stress hormone and thus piling on the abdominal fat.

3. Get popular!
A regular sleep cycle would help you in your emotional and social skills and keep you at the top of your social circle. This is because during sleep, brain control over emotions, decision-making processes and social interactions is hugely decimated. Hence it can be deduced that deep sleep would ensure optimal socializing skills.

4. Repair damaged skin!
The secretion of growth hormone aids in the rebuilding and repairing of body tissues like muscle and bone. A large percentage of the body’s cells also show increased production and reduced breakdown of proteins during deep sleep. A regular sleep cycle would ensure the production of proteins that are crucial in cell growth as well as in repairing the harm from things like stress and ultraviolet rays. The secretion of growth hormone typically occurs in stages 3 and 4 of the sleep cycle, otherwise known as periods of deep sleep. So, remember to maintain your sleep cycle!

5. Get more out of cosmetic products!
Cosmetic products fare better out of the sunlight. Getting a regular sleep cycle will mean that your skin will absorb nutrients from the products more efficiently as sufficient time is given for your skin to rest in the dark. Evidence has shown that antioxidants such as vitamins C and E will stay active on your skin longer if you apply them at night.

6. Get a healthy glow!
A regular sleep cycle would allow the body to repair itself from the various harmful effects of stress – alopecia areata, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis – attain a healthy glow and alleviate the risk of looking worn out or haggard. Sleeping also lowers the amount of stress on the body thus also decreasing the body’s susceptibility to the aforementioned harmful effects.
